Visual Art Studio presents: FPA East Animations Friday January 22, 2010. 9pm Live Music after Screening FPA's aim is to popularize independent cinema from northern-east part of Poland. The idea was born in a place when many cultures and religions meet, in the land of artists, bisons, wildlife where the creative potential finds an outlet in original, creative, visual, poetic film. FPA visited most of Europe and now for its third year hosted by VAS in New York.

Visual Art Studio's Documentary Feature Out and About: Turntable Society Will be premiere March 2010 The project is about the emerging Eastern European club & DJ culture. The film explores the differences & similarities between the scenes. We explore the themes of community, asthetics, styles, history, drugs, politics of Turntable Culture and Creators . The Film was shot in Europe and US over a period of 4 years. We gather contributions to the project from musicians like Amon Tobin, Kenny Mitchell, Afrika Bambaata and members of Zulu Nation. Insights also come from writers/philosophers like Douglass Rushkoff, Howard Bloom, Jeff Cheng among many Eastern European stars, writers, politicians plus European & American artist collectives like Audiosfera & Dreaming.

Ethel String Quartet @ Berkeley Carroll Acclaimed as America’s premier postclassical string quartet, ETHEL boldly infuses contemporary concert music with fierce intensity, questioning the boundaries between performer and audience, tradition and technology. The Berkeley Carroll School, officially chartered by New York state in 1886, is one of the oldest independent schools in New York City. BC is a dynamic community sustained by a passion for learning where the relationship between student and teacher is paramount. Visual Art Studio explores the relationship between music, improvisation and young impressionable minds. Over a three day period we film Ethel String Quartet creating original music with the BC students cumilating in a grand preformance concert.

The documentary focuses on the changes and challenges the villagers face on Polands entry to the European Union. It is a fascinating portrait of a people on the borders of a new empire and the impact on their lives. |
